This past session the Montgomery County Senate & House Delegations delivered more than $7 million in refunds to thousands of Montgomery County homeowners who were shortchanged on their Homeowner’s Property Tax Credit. To check if you are due a refund or are eligible for this credit, visit the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation or call 410-767-4433 (toll free 1-800-944-7403).
Montgomery County and Baltimore City homeowners have had their property taxes miscalculated causing taxpayers from those areas more than $32 million of over charges. After a constituent brought to Delegate Al Carr’s and my attention that the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) was shortchanging Montgomery County Homeowners with how they calculated property tax credits, we, along with the entire Montgomery County Delegation passed legislation (SB593/HB718) that returns millions of dollars in refunds to thousands of Montgomery County homeowners. To qualify for the tax credit program, applicants must own their primary residence and have a gross household income of less than $60,000 annually. The credit is based on how much property taxes exceed a percentage of a household’s income.
